Run Our Race’s mission is to empower today’s youth to never lose hope and to persevere through life's challenges. We advocate for the proper fueling of mind, body, and spirit, emphasizing resilience and self-belief. Our goal is to inspire individuals to be grateful, maintain a positive perspective, and to run their own race in life, without comparing themselves to others. We encourage our partners, sponsors and community to join us in improving emotional, physical, and mental health.
Milan "Mimi" Ming is a student athlete and the founder and president of Health Over Wealth -Run Our Race (ROR) Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. She grew up in Atlanta, GA where she discovered her love for running at the age of 7 years old. Between the ages of 7-17 she was fortunate enough to run with school track and several amazing track clubs. During that time, she won many awards, set school records and had progressive success in her sport.
In April of 2019 she suffered her first setback, a hamstring injury that prevented her from participating in her junior year HS State Championship meet. However, by August of that same year she worked hard in rehab and was able to get healthy enough to win 2019 AAU National Junior Olympics in the 400m for 17/18-year-old age division.
Later that year, November of 2019, as a senior in high school she signed an athletic scholarship with Vanderbilt University.
In March of 2020, a global pandemic, halted all athletic activities which prevented Milan from having a HS senior track season. Fast forward to freshman year at Vanderbilt, the onset of 2021 indoor season Milan contracted COVID 19 which prevented her from competing her first year of college. Her sophomore year she had unexpected knee surgery which prevented her from competing another year.
Years of personal athletic setbacks combined with a life changing summer internship with Ryan Seacrest Foundation, working with patients at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital are what influenced Milan to create Run Our Race Foundation. She wanted to share her personal experiences to show how her faith was tested and how she had to get a crash course in learning to be resilient, to persevere, all while not giving up hope!
Ultimately, she learned not to compare but to be patient, to be grateful, to trust the process, to be kind to herself, to eat well, to never give up and to just keep running her race in life!
Milan is an honor student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Communication Studies and a minor in African American & Diaspora Studies from Vanderbilt University. She will graduate in May of 2024 and has been accepted to attend Vanderbilt's graduate school to pursue a Master of Marketing degree. Milan is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

COVID 19 and the influence of social media has had a very negative effect on mental
health because so many individuals are faced with increased isolation, depression and
anxiety, amongst other challenges. Nearly half of high school students in a CDC study
reported feeling consistently sad or hopeless to the point that they stopped doing their usual activities and occasionally experienced depressive episodes.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
